To lose your phone can be terrifying, but fortunately, there are some grand tools to help recover it. Samsung has presented a “Find my Mobile” app for some time now, but this week, it’s picking up the helpful new ability to trail a lost phone even when the phone is offline.
In the new update rolling out, Samsung is allowing the capability to locate your phone (and, consequently, watches or earbuds) while they need an active connection to the internet. How? When this feature is allowed, Samsung says other near Galaxy devices with the similar feature enabled will “scan” for others that allow every phone to account on another’s location when lost.
This transformation will come in version 7.1.08.0 of the Find my Mobile app that is presently rolling out. It’s not allowed by default, but Samsung is distributing push notifications to Galaxy owners to notify them of the decision, as friend-of-the-site Max Weinbach noticed.

For Samsung Galaxy users, this is definitely a supportive opportunity. An active internet connection, such as what’s used in Google’s “Find my Device” app and as well in use in the Samsung “Find my Mobile” app, might still be able to more consistently find your device, but for tablets particularly, I can visualize this new offline option as a complete lifesaver.
