Huawei Threatens to Cut off Android Updates
Huawei threatens to cut off Android updates for users on supported smartphones as the license expires. It has been more than a year that a US ban strained Google to end partnership with Huawei, however, a continuing and improved license has permitted the two companies to partner and go on with supporting phones previously in the hands of users with Android updates. Currently, however, that license is in peril.
Reports from the Washington Post is that, as of Thursday, the general license that permitted Google to partner with Huawei on maintaining current phones has expired. From a technical view, that license was built to help rural communities in the US whose networks relied on Huawei tools, presently to get new tools.

Through an email, the US Commerce Department made known that the license had provided “an opportunity for Huawei users and telecommunications providers to carry on to provisionally operate such devices and existing networks while speeding up the evolution to alternative suppliers.”
Concerning Android updates for Huawei devices, Google did verify that it was this expired license that was making the company to help in supporting present Huawei smartphones and tablets. The company pointed back also to a statement from February which explained that support and also advised customers not to install more Google’s apps on new Huawei devices.
As new devices that will be launched by Huawei will not be able to use Google apps from launch, with chips running out, and past devices having an uncertain future, things basically aren’t looking excellent for Huawei’s smartphone company on the smartphone business currently.
