Do Not Block Nigerians SIM Cards Without NIN- FG Orders

President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday ordered that subscriber who are yet to link NIN with therir phone number should not be blocked until February 9, 2021.

The initial deadline was january 19, but the new extension would give Nigerians who are yet to link their SIMs to their National Identity Number (NIN) more time to do so.

Remember earlier in Dec 2020, the Federal Government declared that all SIMs that were not registered with valid NINs on the network of telecommunications companies would be blocked after December 30, 2020. It was then later extended from December 30, 2020, to January 19, 2021 following the corona crisis and the struggles of Nigerians trying to complete the mandatory registration.

The new public notice posted on the NIMC instagram and twitter handle reads;

All Nigerians ans Legal Residents are advised to enroll for their National Identification Number (NIN) and link them before february 9th, 2021.

Many telephone users, ageencies and organizations have called for a further deadline extension or outright suspension of the NIN registration process due to the large number of people that are yet to get their NINs, six weeks’ extension has now been given from December 30, 2020, to February 9, 2021.

Many Nigerians still believe that the new February 9 deadline would still be extended because many Nigerians are yet to complete the registrations and many are still struggling to complete the erollment process.
