Huawei Launch Matebook X with 1kg weight, pressure-sensitive

Huawei just made it known that its MateBook X laptop with a somewhat altered design and extensive and improved touchpad. Though it maintains the unchanged design language as the Pro version of the device, there are a few obvious changes that bring the weight down to just 1kg contrasting to the 1.33kg heaviness of the X Pro. It’s also excitingly slim at 13.6mm.

The display has been condensed to just 13.0″ from 13.9″ on the Pro but maintained the 3000 x 2000px resolution for an easy 3:2 feature ratio. Huawei pledged 100% sRGB coverage and a massive 400 nits of utmost brightness. It’s also a touch screen and promises a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Through looking at the renders, the bezels seem just as slim as on the X Pro.

The identical Intel Core i5-10210U and Core i7-10510U CPUs matching with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR3 memory power up the device whilst storage options are restricted to 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD. However, because of the lesser size, the vanilla MateBook X settles for 42Wh battery contrast to the 56Wh on the X Pro.

Also, it scrapes the regular USB-A connector and utilizes just two USB-C ports, which its function is for charging.

No key adjusts to the keyboard, the out of sight camera, and the four speakers but there’s a latest kind of touchpad that means to take on Apple’s Force Touch touchpad on its MacBooks. Huawei states that it can identify unusual pressure levels and the haptic feedback feels similar to a press of a true button. The entire area of the touchpad presents an identical clicking experience.

The MateBook X comes in four variants – Space Gray, Emerald Green, Mystic Silver, and some kind of Rose Gold color. Pre-orders in China are by now live and the Core i5, 8GB/512GB version asks CNY 7.999 (~$1,150), the same processor paired with 16GB/512GB memory is valued at CNY 8,999 (~$1,300), and the Core i7 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage costs CNY 9,999 (~$1,450). Huawei will launch shipping the new laptop on August 24.

Currently, there’s no word on when the MateBook X will get to the global market but we expect it to take 1 month or 2.
